World News – CA – Report: Raptors Signs $ 14 Million Two Year Deal With Aron Baynes

. . The Toronto Raptors added Aron Baynes to replace departing Marc Gasol and Serge Ibaka.

. .

The Toronto Raptors have reached an agreement to sign the Aron Baynes Free Agent Center for $ 14 for two years. 3 million contract to Shams Charania from The Athletic. The second year of his contract includes a team option.

Baynes is a similar style of playing as the outgoing Marc Gasol, who signed with the Los Angeles Lakers. The 33-year-old Australian has had a career year in which he was an average of 11 years old. 5 points. 5. 6 rebounds and 1. 6 assists while a strong defensive reserve for the Phoenix Suns. He sets sturdy screens, hits the three with a respectable clip, is a wall in the post, and generally a casual gamer who should blend in with the Raptors’ system without fuss.

Toronto also signed Chris Boucher on a two-year deal, but Baynes is the starter. Baynes took four threes per game and did 35 percent of his looks last season which should make room for his teammates. It remains to be seen whether this was a mirage – Baynes only got a three in the first five years of his career – but it’s a serviceable center that’s more reliable on a nightly basis compared to Boucher. Their styles are also complementary in that Boucher is better off protecting the faster stretch fives, while Baynes is still pretty nifty but better off using his strength to his advantage in the post.

Most importantly, the Raptors have retained financial flexibility for the 2021 off-season when the Raptors are scheduled to hunt Star Free Agents. Baynes can either be fired or his small salary can be used as part of a trade, which is the case for Boucher.

Marc Gasol agreed to join the Los Angeles Lakers and ended his stint with the Toronto Raptors.

The Celtics designed Jayson Tatum with the No.. 3 Overall selection in the 2017 NBA draft.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Pittsburgh’s most dominant defensive performance of the season kept the Steelers perfect. Terrell Edmunds and Minkah Fitzpatrick each intercepted two passes and the Steelers rolled up to a 10-0 record with a 27-3 win in Jacksonville on Sunday. Rookie quarterback Jake Luton looked lost for most of the day to the Steelers, who allowed 206 yards and ended with two sacks. They celebrated every sale by running to the end zone and posing for the cameras. Ben Roethlisberger and Co. . liked to share the spotlight with one of the league’s most disruptive defenses. Roethlisberger completed 32 of 46 passes for 267 yards and two touchdowns. He found Chris Claypool and Eric Ebron for scores. Diontae Johnson finished with 12 catches for 111 yards. James Conner ran 13 times for 89 yards and showed some life for a fighting floor game. Of course, it all came against one of the worst and most dysfunctional franchises in the NFL. The Jaguars (1-9) set a season record by losing their ninth straight. Luton completed 16 of 37 passes for 151 yards and four interceptions. Former Jaguar defenseman Tyson Alualu, a game captain, made a pass that led to Fitzpatrick’s first choice at the 2-yard line. The Steelers turned that into a touchdown that turned the game around in the second quarter. Fellow rookie James Robinson was Jacksonville’s only bright spot. He ran 17 times for 73 yards and caught two passes for 21 yards. The jaguars dropped to 41-100 in owner Shad Khan’s nine-year tenure. He tied the former owner of the New Orleans Saints, John Mecom Jr. . as the second fastest to hit 100 losses. Khan hit the dodgy mark in 141 games, one more than the late Tampa Bay Buccaneers owner Hugh Culverhouse. SEE YOUR STEPS Recipient JuJu Smith-Schuster appeared to have injured his foot while stepping on an official’s yellow flag. Smith-Schuster jogged off the field on the fourth, winced, and started limping after his cleat strangely landed on the weighted portion of the flag. He was checked out on the sidelines and did not return. SACK STREAK The Steelers extended their sack streak to 67 consecutive games. Stephon Tuitt suffered a 9-yard loss in a third-and-14 game against Luton in the third quarter. It was Pittsburgh’s 37th. Sack of the season leading the NFL. HOUSTON – Deshaun Watson dragged two defenders into the end zone for an early Sunday touchdown and J.. . J. . Watt hit down pass by pass from Cam Newton. Houston’s two biggest stars did a great job helping the Texans beat the New England Patriots 27-20 for their first win of the season against a team other than division rivals Jacksonville. Watson threw for 344 yards and two points, but the climax of the game came on a game he made with his feet. New England led 10-7 after a field goal in the second quarter when Watson crawled 4 yards for a touchdown and pulled a linebacker and defensive back into the end zone to give the Texans an edge they wouldn’t give up. « I was just trying to make a difference, » said Watson. “There was just the attack energy and all of the team energy when they saw this and it went on for the rest of the game. « Tight end Jordan Akins was delighted when Watson won the matchup against two major defenders. “That was a big piece . . . that was amazing, « said Akins. « D4, he’s stronger than he looks. I will tell you. « Watson’s two touchdown passes and his scoring all came in the first half as the Texans (3-7) built a 21-10 lead at half time. The offense of Watson and Houston then slowed down to allow the Patriots (4-6) to get back inside. But a 46-yard field goal extended the lead to 27-20 within 3 1/2 minutes. Houston’s beleaguered defense sealed the win with a stop afterwards. Watt knocked Newton’s pass in third place and strong pressure from Justin Reid forced him to throw the ball away in fourth place to give the ball back to the Texans. Reid also had his first career bag on Sunday, finishing with three tackles for losses and two quarterback hits. At the beginning of his career, Watt was nicknamed “J. . J. . Swatt ”for his uncanny ability to knock down passes on the line. Texan fans hadn’t seen much of J.. J. . Swatt in recent years, but he was back to full strength on Sunday as he defended a career high four passes. « He’s J. . J. . What do you expect . . . He’s an all-pro, a perennial all-pro, « Newton said. « He’s a Defensive Player of the Year, one of the best players of this generation. Houston interim coach Romeo Crennel added, « When J. . J. . They know he’s coming and he gets the quarterback off the ground, making it hard for the quarterback to put his feet and throw the ball across the field. « It is the first time since 2009 that the Patriots have lost at least six times in a regular season. « It was a disappointing result for us today, » said New England coach Bill Belichick. « We had a few options during the game and just couldn’t do enough with them. « . « The Texans win brought Crennel a rare win by a former Belichick assistant over his former boss. The Texans’ NFL worst run defense kept the Patriots at 86 yards after getting into the game averaging 161. 1 meter per game. « We all know we’ve fought the run so far this year. . . (see above) for us it is a great achievement for us to keep them at 86 meters, « said Watt. It was the first game in Houston with an open roof since November. 30, 2014, on a fine day the temperature at kick-off was 78. The crowd was down to 12 due to coronavirus restrictions. 503 limited. Newton threw for 365 yards and a touchdown, but was limited to a season low of 6 yards. New England came within 21-17 with about eight minutes in the third quarter when Newton tossed Damiere Byrd a 42-yard touchdown pass that ended with a career high of six catches for 132 yards. Houston later opted for a 36-yard field goal in the third after Watson’s pass on third-and-3 was too high for Keke Coutee. A 36 yard field goal from Nick Folk cut the lead to 24-20, and there were about 7 1/2 minutes left. The Patriots led early on to a 9-yard touchdown from Damien Harris on their first possession. Houston linked it when Watson later scored a 3 yard score with Randall Cobb in the first game. Brandin Cooks had a 44 yard reception earlier on this voyage to set up the score. The Texans made it between 21 and 10 when Watson threw a 6-yard touchdown pass at Coutee just before half-time. New England: RB Rex Burkhead suffered a knee injury early in the third quarter and had to be helped off the field. He was later taken to the locker room on a cart. Houston: Cobb injured his foot touching down and didn’t come back. . . . WR Kenny Stills injured his leg in the first half and did not return. WHAT A HALF Houston had a season high of 274 meters in the first half. All but three of those yards came from Watson as he threw 241 yards and added 30 yards of rushing. UP NEXTPatriots: Host the Cardinals next Sunday. Texans: Visit the Lions on Thursday. ___More AP NFL: https: // apnews. com / NFL and https: // twitter. com / AP_NFLKristie Rieken, The Associated Press
