A plan is reportedly in the works to demolish the Rogers Center and build a new ballpark for the Blue Jays in its place.

Rogers Communications and Brookfield Asset Management plan to demolish the stadium and redesign this huge property as part of a complete downtown redevelopment.

Sources tell Globe and Mail that a new natural grass baseball stadium would occupy the south end of the current property. Residential towers, office buildings, shops and public space are planned for the northern part.

While the ultimate goal is to keep the stadium downtown, Rogers is also reportedly considering some options on the waterfront.

This billion dollar plan would be privately funded, although Rogers and Brookfield are working with all three levels of government on the project.

According to the Globe and Mail, government officials and the two companies intend to make their plans public in the New Year.
