World News – CA – UNIFOR Announces $ 1 attempt 3B deal with GM will see vehicle assembly return to Oshawa

UNIFOR says it has reached tentative deal with GM that will see vehicle production return to Oshawa plant

UNIFOR says it has reached agreement in principle with GM that will see vehicle production return to Oshawa

Union says $ 1 attempt $ 3 billion deal will create at least 2,000 jobs starting in 2021

The company announced in 2018 that it would shut down vehicle assembly at the plant as part of the restructuring and that vehicle assembly would stop there in December 2019.

The plant will assemble heavy and light trucks, such as the Chevrolet Silverado and the GMC Sierra

Diaz said GM will start recruiting workers at the plant in August 2021 and production of the first vehicles will begin in 2022

TORONTO – Union representing Canadian workers at General Motors says it has reached a tentative deal after extending negotiations with the automaker

Unifor had set an 11:59 p.m. deadline on Wednesday to reach a new three-year labor agreement and urged members to prepare for strike action if necessary

But the union said just before the deadline that its main bargaining committee was ready to negotiate overnight to avoid a work stoppage

The announcement of the deal, which has yet to be approved by GM union members, came about four and a half hours after Unifor announced it would extend the deadline for labor negotiations

Unifor said the deal is unanimously recommended for 1,700 members working at GM factories in the southern Ontario cities of St Catharines, Oshawa and Woodstock

Jerry Dias, National President of Unifor, is expected to provide more information at a press conference at 10 a.m. ET

The union said Wednesday afternoon that GM executives had come to Canada this week for face-to-face discussions as negotiations warmed up

Before the deadline, the union said the company had not offered any concrete commitments on future product plans and was falling short of previous agreements made by Ford Motor and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.

The agreements, which were announced and voted on last month, will create around 2,000 new jobs over the next few years, helping the company to recover from downsizing in recent months.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles said $ 14 $ 4 million will be invested in its Toronto plant, $ 50 million will be invested in its plant in Brampton, Ont., Plant and $ 1.35 billion to $ 1.5 billion will be invested in the reinvention of its Windsor , Have, installation to produce at least one electric vehicle
