A police officer was cut in the arm responding to a domestic incident in Canterbury.

Canterbury Police Commander Superintendent John Price said the officer sustained moderate injuries while responding to a family harm in the rural town of Oxford shortly after 4.30pm. « Upon arriving at the address, police tried to speak to the man and de-escalate the situation, » said he.

« When the security arrived, the alleged perpetrator approached the officers while they were still in the vehicle, and an officer was attacked through an open window.

» The officer raised his arm, to protect himself and received cuts on his arm.

« Our priority is employee safety. There is always a risk in police work, but attacking an officer protecting your community is an attack ff on the structure of our community, « said Price.

» A scene investigation is continuing at the address and the police are investigating the circumstances of the incident. «
