Free Agency Day Two Recap
Reporting on the impact of the coronavirus on the sports world
Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury and quarterback Kyler Murray land a seasoned receiver that should add a different dynamic to their offensive attack. According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Cardinals are working on a deal to help former recipient A.J. Green. CBS NFL insider Jason La Canfora confirms Green is flying to Arizona. Rapoport says that deal has been in the works since Tuesday night and that it is likely a one-year contract worth around $ 8 million.
Green has made seven Pro Bowls in nine seasons and has been for the past decade one of the best broadband receivers in the NFL. Unfortunately, its production has slipped with age. Green has had the worst season of his career when he scored 47 of 104 goals for 523 yards and two touchdowns in 16 games. That 45.2 percent catch rate was by far the worst mark he had recorded in his career, as was his five meters per target. Green will turn 33 in July, but this change of scenery could benefit him. DeAndre Hopkins helped Murray take his game to the next level in 2020, and veterans in Green and Larry Fitzgerald (if he chooses to return) would make things easier for the entire offense.
Green was taken from selected the Bengals with the number 4 in the 2011 NFL Draft from Georgia. He started his NFL career at 1,000 yards for five straight seasons before missing six games in 2016, ending his streak. Green made a comeback with 1,078 yards and eight touchdowns in 2017, but suffered a toe injury in 2018 that resulted in him missing seven games. Green then missed the entire 2019 season with an ankle injury. In 127 career games played, Green has caught 649 passes for 9,430 yards and 65 touchdowns. It currently ranks 56th on the list of all-time receiving yards and 58th in all-time touchdowns.
