World news – Clarity in grief after the death of the local rodeo icon

Tributes have been paid on the devastating news that a freak accident claimed the lives of Clarence Valley’s rodeo and campdraft community, Bruce Green.

Ambulance services were called to a convention center on Goonoo Goonoo Road in Tamworth at around 9:10 p.m. on Saturday, January 23, 2021 after a man was seriously injured after being charged by a bull.

The man was treated on-site by paramedics from NSW Ambulance before being taken to Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital, where he died.

In a statement, the Bushmen’s Campdraft and Rodeo Association of Australia confirmed that the man was 62-year-old Bruce Green from Clarence.

« Last night at the ABCRA Rodeo Roundup event at AELEC, a freak accident killed Bruce Green (Greenie), » the statement said.

« A longtime board member of ABCRA, the most extraordinary club member on the Lawrence Rodeo Committee. During this time he has given selflessly to his friends, family, rodeo and campdrafts, and the ABCRA.

« We are all shocked and deeply saddened. The board of directors and members of ABCRA extend our deepest condolences to Bruce’s family and friends. We hold you all in our minds and wish you moments of peace and comfort as we all go about this reflect on the life and worth of a wonderful man.

The Lawrence Rodeo Committee paid tribute to their president and said in a statement that Bruce is missing.

« Bruce has been an important part of the Lawrence Rodeo Committee since its inception in 1982, » the statement said.

« Bruce selflessly bought the original area with his own money to help get the rodeo off the ground.

« Hosting community-based events just won’t be the same without him. He will be very much missed by everyone. »

Bruce, a champion of the Lower Clarence Sports, was also heavily involved in the Clarence Valley Sports Awards.

Oxley Police District officials have been notified and are investigating. A report is currently being prepared for the information of the coroner.
