Dana White gives a speech during UFC Performance Institute Panel 2019 and UFC Fight Night Shenzhen Press Conference on June 20, 2019 at UFC Performance Institute Shanghai in Shanghai, China.
This week boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya announced his return to the ring. The 48-year-old boxer announced plans to fight on July 3rd, almost 13 years after his last professional fight.
« The Golden Boy » announced Friday during the Triller Fight Club press conference that the boxing match between Jake Paul and Ben Askren on April 17th was advertised. « I’ll make my comeback on July 3rd, » said De La Hoya.
UFC President Dana White was of course asked about De La Hoya. White and De La Hoya have been at odds for years. For example, White named The Golden Boy a « coke head » in 2018 after De La Hoya promoted the Chuck Liddell-Tito Ortiz 3 fight that resulted in the nearly 50-year-old Liddell being knocked out.
During the UFC 260 press conference after the fight on Saturday night, White was asked by The Mac Life’s Oscar Willis if he was ready to allow a UFC fighter to box The Golden Boy.
« To box De La Hoya? » Replied White. « Come on guys. That s *** is going to be silly. I mean, you know it’s silly. You just wanna ask me stupid questions. Come on, you have 50 year old f ***** g boxers and you actually talk about it and report on the press conferences? Come on guys. «
