SAN JOSE – The Sharks wore their original style jerseys at the SAP Center on Saturday night against the St. Louis Blues and brought back some nostalgic memories from their early days as an organization 30 years ago.
As those who were there at the time remember, it wasn’t always predictable or good.
The Sharks scored six goals this season, but also allowed a wild 7-6 defeat against the Blues more than all year round, in which neither team could make many important saves or keep a lead for a very long time.
In a game that was almost a goalkeeping match, or at least a heated argument, the Blues took the final lead at 7:14 of the third half when Marco Scandella scored his second goal with a 7-6 advantage for St. Louis.
The Sharks had a lead of one goal on four separate times on Saturday, including a 4-3 lead in the middle of the second half after Evander Kane’s second goal of the game.
But the Blues responded with goals from Zach Sanford and Mackenzie MacEachern, with MacEachern’s shorthanded goal taking a 5-4 lead after 1:18 in the third half. From there, the Sharks scored goals from Kevin Labanc and Logan Couture, with Couture’s goal at 6:31 of the third period connecting the game 6: 6.
“We did a lot of good things with the puck. Without the puck, it’s mental when you get a lead and lose it four times and the next shot goes out and you’re in the net, ”said Sharks coach Bob Boughner. « So it’s a tough question. It’s a game we played well enough to win. »
Sharks goalkeeper Devan Dubnyk allowed seven goals in 31 shots when the Sharks fell 7-9-2 that season. Their next game is Monday against the Colorado Avalanche, their third game with a homestand of seven games.
« I haven’t been in a game like this in a long time, so it was a strange one, » said Dubnyk. « Disappointing. I thought we played really well as a group and I just wanted to think of something if the guys keep coming back and tying it at 5-5 and 6-6.

And when Binnington was pulled out of the game in the middle of the second half after allowing his fourth goal, he didn’t go quietly.
Binnington was pulled by Blues coach Craig Berube shortly after Kane’s goal at 10:34 am of the second half. When Binnington walked up to the bank in St. Louis after his body language, he heard someone from the Sharks Bank say something in his direction. Binnington circled back and pushed Radim Simek before running away.
Since there is no space for the substitute goalkeeper on the visitor bench in the SAP Center, Binnington had to run to the other end of the ice near the Sharks network and Dubnyk. Binnington then forged Erik Karlsson with his blocking hand before moving on to the exit. When Dubnyk went out to say something to the other person, Binnington pushed him and exchanged words with Dubnyk before he ran away.
« I’ve seen him a couple of times, but I think that was good for us, » said Sanford. “Obviously he was mad and we were mad. Seeing him do such a thing and going out with some fire was good for us and getting Ville to play it at a level that plays hard the rest of the way. »
The Sharks led 4: 3 after Kane’s goal, but the Blues connected it with a goal from Sanford, which remained 1:44 in the second half.
The Sharks had a 2-1 lead after a strong first period.

Timo Meier scored his third goal of the season in the first shot of the game when his shot came from a sharp angle to the net from Blues defender Torey Krug and Binningtonn jumped over with a 1-0 lead from Sharks in just 17 seconds.
The Blues got that target back at 6:08 of the first. Just seconds after a Sharks turnover, Marco Scandella’s Slapshot passed Dubnyk from the blue line, who made his first start since February 20th. Kane then scored his first goal at 10:11 of the first half of the power play.
