Devontae Shuler is starting to find his rhythm, and that bodes well for Ole Miss.

The senior point guard helped the rebels achieve a dominant road win against rivals Mississippi State on Tuesday, and finished thus a three-game slide.

Shuler scored 22 points in 33 minutes at « The Hump » in Starkville. It was possibly the spark the Rebels (7-6, 2-4 SEC) need as they step into the middle portion of the Southeastern Conference game looking for a second consecutive NCAA seat.

« We needed that confidence, « said Ole Miss head coach Kermit Davis after Tuesday’s game. « We needed that feeling. »

The feeling Davis is talking about is that his senior has scored at least 19 points in the last three games. Tuesday’s performance was Shuler’s 11th 20-point game of his career at Ole Miss, but more importantly, it was Shuler’s fifth such performance in 13 games.

Between her home loss to Georgia on January 16 and the Tuesday game in the state of Mississippi, Shuler and Davis sat down and talked about how the first part of the conference game went for the rebels. « It was great in practice, » said Davis. « He played really well the last couple. He’s just determined to finish his senior year. Devontae isn’t a really loud, loud guy at your gym, but he had a good voice. He’s got a great voice with our guys from the floor «

In Tuesday’s game, the rebels looked like the defensive juggernaut they played outside of conference. Eight rebels finished with at least three rebounds, including Shuler, and zone defenses suppressed the ability of the Mississippi state to persist offensive Now Shuler and the rebels return home on Saturday to play against a team from Texas A&M, which are also trying to improve the SEC rating. The Aggies (7-5, 2 -4) lost at home to Missouri on January 16 but haven’t played in a week as their game at Vanderbilt was postponed due to COVID-19 issues under the Commodores program.

« I feel like we’ve given up on some games, » said Shuler. “If we prevail against our rivals and beat them, we’ll be back in the winning column. Now we’re talking again. «

Ole Miss and Texas A&M tip at 2:30 pm. CT and the game will be broadcast on the SEC network.
