Brees ‘trainer Todd Durkin posted a video on social media Saturday showing the Saints’ quarterback pushing a weighted sled through a parking lot with the caption, « I’m not sure why he’s like this today crazy, but it has to be brewing … «
Brees was expected to retire shortly after the Saints season ended with a playoff loss to the Buccaneers on January 17th. But he hasn’t done it yet – and the longer he waits, the more it suggests that he might reconsider his options.
The video of him training vigorously will not allay that suspicion. Here is an excerpt from the comment in the video: « Drew, what are you doing? OK, he’s never done that!… I don’t know what he’s doing… Never done that right!… You have needed a challenge … that’s a new record because it’s never been done before! «
Brees was also expected to retire in the final off-season before reversing course and one in March Two-year deal signed.
« Last year he joined the Saints’ coaching staff at the Pro Bowl and they cried because it was his last game. He’s retired, « ESPN’s Adam Schefter said on the Rich Eisen Show this week. « And then he took some time off and lo and behold, he came back in March. »
Brees recently agreed to cut his salary from $ 25 million to the league minimum in 2021 to help the Saint to help overcome the hell of salary caps. That has been interpreted as a sign that he’s retiring.
But Brees pushes this sled like a man who wants to avoid pass-rushing, and not one who cares about keeping his father in shape hold.
Few athletes can write a championship final like John Elway, Peyton Manning and Michael Strahan, but Brees’ last game was a debacle with three interceptions against Tom Brady. It wasn’t appropriate for the NFL leader in overtaking.
« I’m not saying he’s coming back. I still think he’s going to retire, » Schefter said. « I don’t think this Things are black and white and he’s ready to walk out the door, although I think that will ultimately be the decision. «
