The NFL off-season has picked up this week as teams make their final decisions on where to use their franchise tag. In the midst of the frenzy, numerous organizations are looking for ways to cut salaries and make way for the fast approaching new league year. The Atlanta Falcons did just that on Tuesday.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Falcons are releasing veteran offensive lineman James Carpenter, a source said Tuesday.

Carpenter, 31, signed In 2019, he signed a four-year deal with the Falcons worth $ 21 million. He has played for Atlanta in 24 games, mostly with the left guard.

Prior to joining the Falcons, Carpenter was ranked 25th overall in the 2011 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks. During the 2013 season, he moved the team to the Super Bowl, but moved to the New York Jets in 2015. In total, Carpenter has started 121 regular season games in the NFL, meaning that any team that has a veteran on the offensive line needs to be able to play at the newly minted free agent.
