Mackay is likely to be spared the brunt and aftermath of a tropical cyclone that formed off the coast of Cooktown.
The cyclone will affect areas from Cape Flattery to Ingham, the Bureau of Meteorology has recommended.
BOM meteorologist Kimba Wong said Mackay and the Whitsundays are unlikely to experience the same high tide they saw last week after cyclone Imogen.
Starting Tuesday, a shower or two is forecast for the remainder of the week, with conditions relaxing before the weekend.
« As we get closer to Wednesday, there is a forecast of steady showers instead of sporadic heavy showers, with rainfall in double digits for most parts of the central coast, » Ms. Wong said.
