Geneva: Franz Beckenbauer and other former German football officials cannot be prosecuted for the vote buying scandal in 2006 because the statute of limitations has expired, the FIFA Ethics Committee announced on Thursday.
« The judicial chamber of the independent ethics committee has decided that the behavior of Franz Beckenbauer, Theo Zwanziger and Horst R Schmidt in connection with the FIFA World Cup 2006 cannot be prosecuted due to the expiry of the statute of limitations « , it says in a statement.
