In addition to its series of live-streamed events, the Boston Book Festival 2020 hosts several outdoor activities in October for in-person visitors
The annual festival book hunt on October 1 and 2 offers the chance to search for free books, written by festival presenters, hidden around Boston and other cities Follow the organization on Twitter and Instagram (@ bostonbookfest) for clues to the whereabouts of hidden gems This year, the festival involved a wider range of cities in its adventure This means that bibliophiles can follow these institutions for clues as well: Walden Woods Project (@ TheWaldenWoods), Orchard House by Louisa May Alcott (@LouisaMayAlcott), the Emily Dickinson Museum (@DickinsonMuseum); the Eric Carle Picture Book Art Museum (@carlemuseum); Arrowhead by Herman Melville (@ Arrowhead1850), The Mount by Edith Wharton (@TheMountLenox) and the Harriet Beecher Stowe Center in Connecticut (@HBStoweCenter)
Thanks to the festival’s Story Walks project, families can pick up a map at the Frugal Bookstore in Roxbury to see which neighborhood stores have displayed pages of Kwame Alexander’s Caldecott Medalist children’s book, The Undefeatedune ???? In Downtown Crossing, stop by the window at 27 School St to read 10 memorable submissions to the festival’s At Home community writing project Each mini essay captures a slice of life, however ordinary, during the pandemic from the share local residents
