Twenty-five years later and Miller believes that the same solid backbone combined with a dash of individual brilliance from Steven Gerrard’s side could end their long wait for successive wins in the East.
And that would be a huge statement as they hit the quarter point of a monumental season
Miller, now 44, told Record Sport: « Those two wins in September 1995 were huge – but that’s exactly what we expected at the time.
« Old Firm games are always about winning your personal battle first and foremost When I played we would always go there thinking we could beat them – that mentality is important
« Celtic had good players but we knew we were better than them We had winners like Laudrup, Gascoigne and a steel like Gough, Ferguson and McCall And behind that we had Andy Goram
« Going there you knew they didn’t like you, but you just went there to do a job. We were expected to win and I was lucky enough to be part of ‘a very successful team
« Helander looks good, so does Balogun and I love Goldson And of course two very good goalies The backbone of the team is solid and they have so many good options in the middle of the park that you have Morelos at the front
« At first I wasn’t Ryan Kent’s biggest fan because I thought he could do more
« I just hope Rangers don’t think it will be easy because of the missing Celtic players. They are champions for a reason so it will be far from it
« But Steven Gerrard will make sure the frame of mind is right. I wanted to win last time there and I think they can do it again »
Neil Lennon claimed the outcome would have no bearing on where the title goes But Miller insists it will
He said: « It’s very important for Rangers not to lose the game If they get a draw then decent If they win brilliantly
« Whoever wins will win a huge payout. Old Firm games have always had a huge influence on the title and I don’t see it being any different this season
« It will be better for the Rangers if the fans are not there It will be weird, horrible even You want the vibe
