World News – GB – Daggers on the march thanks to the Balanta strike

Dagenham & Redbridge 1-0 Wealdstone Dagenham & Redbridge got his National League show from Vanarama on the road to third

Dagenham & Redbridge had his Vanarama National League show on the road on the third attempt as Angelo Balanta’s second-half strike proved enough to see the tenacious side of Wealdstone, the construction stage of Chigwell

It was already a pressure situation for Daryl McMahon’s men following back-to-back losses to FC Halifax Town and Barnet

Perhaps with that in mind, unsurprisingly, the opening period consisted of very little quality and few real opportunities Wealdstone’s Jerome Okimo was just around the corner after a short corner routine Balanta lobbed on the rig roof, then tested the Harry Isted stone plug as the Daggers responded quickly

Andrew Eleftheriou and Balanta saw the efforts comfortably claimed by Isted as the home side began to assert themselves on the contest But the exchanges were frantic and disjointed as the two struggled for a firm footing

Myles Weston’s weak training was deflected behind, while Mitch Brundle’s strike was too high as Dagenham finished the half slightly stronger

The second half offered much the same, although initially the visitors – resolutely determined – saw a little more of the ball, without providing a viable threat

Paul McCullum nodded after a left sweep involving Weston and Elliott Johnson But with their next foray forward, the home side took the lead

Balanta picked up the pieces before shipping them cleanly past the fully extended Isted On the scales of odds, it was a lead the Daggers pretty much deserved – Although at this point none of the two parties didn’t look particularly good in what had been an otherwise shy encounter

Mitch Brundle shot straight at Isted as the home side looked to double their late-game money Meanwhile, Daggers goalkeeper Elliot Justham brilliantly saved from Ross Lafayette in the dying seconds – Jerome Slew sending off follow-up to the top as Wealdstone desperately pressed for a share of the loot
