She added: « For a while the police lived inside our house when some people scratched really racist slogans on every sign of two cars in front of our house.
« And now I have a mixed race girl and I see what she is going through, I see it But she is very strong and she can sniff a racist 200 yards away and take a nice steep deviation to the left »
Sir Lenny explained in his memoirs how he used humor as a child to fend off racist abuse
