. . Maybe I'm just as shocked and curious as you. "

Novak Djokovic put his hat in the ring to be re-elected to the ATP Players Council, despite his resignation in August.

Djokovic, the world no. 1 from Serbia, asked to step down from the board – where he was president – after co-founding ATP with Canadian Vasek Pospisil.

Oddly enough, both Djokovic and Busbecil now want to return to the board despite their frequent criticism of the governing body structure of men’s tennis. The new board will be decided by the start of next season, with players voting before the end of December.

Bruno Soares, one of the current ATP board members who will be running for re-election, confirmed that the 17-time Grand Slam champion was on the election list. It is also understood that Roger Federer, Raphael Nadal and Andy Murray are seeking re-election.

Soares, a Brazilian doubles specialist who used to be Jimmy Murray’s partner, has expressed bewilderment over Djokovic’s decision to stand up after creating a separate group designed to represent players.

“I saw the list,” he said after he and his partner Pavic were beaten by Horacio Zebalos and Marcel Granollers in the ATP tournament tiebreak.. Just not them. There is a group of people.

“I don’t really know what’s going on in PTPA. I was kicked out of their conversation, I guess because I stayed on the players council, so I don’t know their thoughts. I don’t know what to do. I don’t know much to be honest with them.

“Yeah, I mean, I think it’s so fun to see them running. I really don’t know, I mean, because we don’t hear from you guys. There is no political campaign in which we hear players talk about what they would do if elected.

« Well, I mean, I’m probably just as shocked and curious as you guys both quit three months ago and then run again.

Although Suárez is confused about their attempts to join the council again, he does not think he would be « uncomfortable » if they were re-elected..

« I’m there, I’m running. I mean, Novak and Vasik, they’ve always been very active on the board. And that’s beautiful. It’s good to have people. I think that’s the point. All of us on the Players Council, we have to work hard and make decisions for the best of the round.

“They have decided to form a PTPA. I think we all on the Players Council respect that. I mean, there is nothing against what they try. I just think it doesn’t go both ways, Gamers Council and PTPA, so they had to quit.

“As I said, at the moment I really don’t know what they would do if they were elected. I don’t think it would be uncomfortable. I think that is the idea.

“We are 10 men on the players council. We’re used to the difference on some things, which is why 10 men should vote, debate, and decide what’s best for the players and rounds.

“Like I said, they are always very active, proactive and working for the players. So I think if they want to come back, they want to try to help the players in the best way they can.

Djokovic will be asked about his motives after the quarter-final match with Daniel Medvedev later on Wednesday..
