Ian Holloway lamented Forest Green Rovers’ loss of time after seeing his team fall to a narrow 1-0 loss at Nailsworth
Jake Young’s goal in the first half was enough to give the hosts all three points, despite Town’s best efforts to find an equalizer
The Mariners spent much of the second half attacking without being able to find a way through their resilient opponents, and were denied a time-out penalty as Terry Taylor was booked for the simulation
Holloway was more concerned, however, with what he saw as deliberate efforts on the part of Forest Green, which wasted time.
« First half, all the balls were there, they got them back very quickly When they are 1-0 and that has changed, the stewards put the ball in the corner so that we can’t get them get What is it then
« They are a very good team, but what I’m saying is how can that be true? Is that how you win? At all costs, make sure you have to time to collect the ball?
« I’m very proud of our performance tonight because it’s a very good team. They scored a goal, but we should have more than equalized, and we had a lot more possession than them »
Holloway added: « You could tell they were hanging on – I don’t think so I think we got past them, but we lost
« For my team, I’m delighted with this, but what I say to the referee is how many times have we had to go get the ball? It’s more than three minutes at the end
« And where is football these days? Where is that all? We have an example to give: sport is sport, it is not yet business until there is money left, and we hope the government will help everyone make money out of it.
« But I’m telling you, sport is sport, and right now everyone can hear every word we say. We should be very proud of the way we do things as a group here »
Forest Green boss Mark Cooper, however, defended his team, saying: « We kept throwing the balls out of the ground tonight which is unlike us – it was not tactical »
