Jonathan Davies feared he would never play for Wales again after the injury that sidelined him for almost a year

The 32-year-old center is set to don the Wales jersey for the first time since losing the third World Cup play-off to New Zealand on November 1

Davies, who has played 81 times for his country, underwent left knee surgery following the tournament in Japan

But after returning for Scarlets in a friendly against the Ospreys last month, Davies is now fit enough to play a warm-up with France in Paris one week on Saturday.

When asked at the Macron Wales kit launch if he was still confident of a return to the international stage, Davies said: ‘I’m not sure about that because the guy surgery that I had meant was a waiting match

« I had to keep my knee straight for 12 weeks and at that time I had a CT scan to see how the operation went

« All the other surgeries I’ve had you know you got fixed when you’re in the hospital bed and got stitched up

« But with this one, I was hoping the body would adapt and help itself recover. Fortunately, it has and since then it has been pretty good and I’m happy with my rehabilitation program »

After coming back against the Ospreys, Davies appeared in two Guinness PRO14 matches against Munster and Glasgow

« Obviously my body is still a bit rusty but I feel like I’m going in the right direction, » he added

« The knee feels great and it’s just a matter of working hard and trying to get back to where I was before the injury and try to push again

« There is still work to be done but the main thing is that the knee feels good and I’m happy about it

« For every Welsh child that grows up, he wants to represent his country and I have had the chance to do so many times

« I have to continue to work hard and earn my place in the team and in the team, and it’s up to me to put myself in the right position »

Wayne Pivac’s 38-man squad face an intense spell of six tests in as many weeks, starting with France, then a rescheduled Guinness Six Nations fixture with Scotland and four Cup matches of the Fall Nations against opponents including England and Ireland

The group will be in a « bubble » at their usual training base in the Vale of Glamorgan For Davies, this is his first visit to Wales after the departure of Warren Gatland

« The rugby brand was fun to watch during the Six Nations so I’m delighted to be part of the squad, » he concluded.

« There are still old faces so the balance is great We have been out as a group for a long time so we just enjoy being on the pitch and we want to keep improving and continuing to grow build as a team »
