« I didn’t think this was happening, I mean it’s a brave volunteer doing this, » she exclaimed
Dr Amir said only fit and healthy people between the ages of 18 and 30 are invited to participate in the potentially life-saving study
Explaining how it will work, he continued, « It will be under very controlled circumstances to find out how much virus is needed to cause the infection.
« They will slowly expose them to small amounts of the virus to see what the threshold is, which might help with a vaccine
« They will monitor these people very closely, it will be very controlled and there will be relief drugs if one of them falls ill », assured the doctor
Kate didn’t look convinced when she asked, « When you say very controlled, it’s a disease we don’t fully understand
« So they might be watching you very closely and you might suddenly be one of those unhappy people who suddenly develop symptoms for which we still have no cure »
