« I often had to be up all night, I still do sometimes, talking to Derek in his state on FaceTime, » the host began

« So the [nurses] were setting up an iPad so I could talk to him and obviously he couldn’t answer but I could talk to him

« I would sit in the garden and do this and talk about the things he liked – it’s just a nice thing to do

« And also sometimes when I was really overwhelmed with fear and uncertainty and what life was going to be like, I would just focus on moving the leaves »
