Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither – we shouldn’t think – it’s going to take off in LEGO’s Roman Collosseum, the playmaker of the largest brick collection to date.
Weighing up to 9,036 pieces, this is not only the largest brick set ever released from LEGO (title stealing from the LEGO Star Wars Millennium Falcon) but it has also been expertly designed to replicate the architecture of the original Roman game runway.
One for history buffs as well as LEGO fans, this authentic LEGO cubes entertainment features many photorealistic details found in true historical symbol, including re-creation of three distinct stories from the Colosseum, each consisting of columns of Doric, Ionic and Corinthian orders.
These columns have been faithfully recreated in the shape of LEGO bricks using a variety of creative building techniques, including decorative spirals created with a recolored LEGO skate element that has been turned upside down for an authentic look.
The Colosseum also includes 80 « ribs » in spectator mounts (exactly the same number as the original) and three different shades of brick to repeat the different columns and the aging of the landmark approximately 2000 years old.
The design experience was created to fit the same original process, with the « wooden » LEGO apron being the last design to be put on a LEGO model, as it was in the 1990s. The LEGO Colosseum rests on an oval base, enabling this display piece to be viewed in 360 degrees from any angle.
Builders can then choose which aspect of the gorgeous LEGO Brick they show for recreation to one of Rome’s most visited attractions – whether that is the south side of the building destroyed by earthquakes and various natural disasters over the years, or the more complete northern wall.
The Colosseum features arches recreated with details of LEGO cubes, allowing the center of the Colosseum to be seen from the outside.
The collection was designed by Rok Zgalin Kobe who commented: “One of the biggest challenges and one of the most important things was to convey the Colosseum relic in LEGO form..
« I felt the LEGO model should exhibit a special architectural feature of the original – the column rows surrounding the arches in various styles. To achieve this, the model was created using the vertical swirl effect. So the cross section is more steeper than the real structure. We hope that people will be inspired to learn more about the original with our LEGO model building experience.
The LEGO Colosseum measures over 10. 5 inches (27 cm) high, 20. 5 inches (52 cm) wide and 23. Its depth is 5 inches (59 cm) making it a stunning centerpiece for any LEGO block set.
The collection will launch on November 27, Black Friday, as part of LEGO and LEGO Stores. Com black friday deals.
