World News – GB – Lockdown losses of £ 7,000 per base club in Wales

The enormous financial cost of grassroots football in Wales has been exposed

These advertisements allow local businesses to present themselves to their target audience – the local community

It is important that we continue to promote these ads as our local businesses need as much support as possible in these difficult times

According to a study by the Football Association of Wales Trust (FAWT), each grassroots club in Wales has lost an average of £ 7,000 since March

These losses are due to a loss of match day and club sponsorship, cancellation of events and continued delays at the start of the season for all clubs except 16 in Wales

The survey was completed by over 500 clubs and paints a grim picture of the future of Welsh football

A loss of sponsorship was responsible for the majority of the losses, with more than 80% of clubs saying their coffers had been wiped out since March, while more than half of respondents confirmed that volunteers had left their club since the lock

Worryingly, many clubs have warned that their only hope of recouping their losses will be an increase in membership prices if they survive this season

However, 74% of junior clubs are planning new activities to make up for the loss of a season when FAW and Welsh government allow grassroots football to return

Survey results show 97% of Welsh clubs have been financially affected with an average loss of £ 7,000 per club, with the sections most affected being senior teams and under 14 and under age teams 16 years old
