World News – GB – Need to discuss my role with management: Stokes

The all-rounder from England was promoted to first place in RR's last game and only played one

Forced lockdown by COVID was Ben Stokes’ longest stint away from cricket As the country gradually opened up, he flew to Christchurch to be alongside his ailing father This is why he also missed the first two weeks of the Indian Premier League, where they scored two spectacular victories before slipping to a losing streak. Once ready to join the team, he had to quarantine himself for six days before playing his first game

“Quarantine was pretty straightforward,” Stokes said Wednesday Oct. 14 “I had my X-box which helped me a lot, playing Call of Duty with few boys Watching Netflix and Amazon Prime, so I managed to entertain myself I have a treadmill and a bike in my room with medicine balls, bands and stuff to continue my fitness routines

« Here I actually have like a taped garden where no one else is allowed It’s good that people are allowed to walk past the area and have a chat So this made quarantine a bit easier , have a little human contact during the six days So it’s not too bad a forties for me I spoke to Sanju because he is in the room next to me and Ankit came to say hello «

After the mandatory quarantine, Stokes only had one training session with the whole squad to argue for his presence in the game against the Sunrisers Hyderabad He was signed up straight away, not only replacing Tom Curran, but even getting promoted to the opener’s place with the rest moving from one place below although Stokes only played one and comes back with a 5 to six balls, RR managed to pick up his first points long enough after starting the tournament strong

« It was great to play my first game for the team and to get the most important victory It was a pleasure to see Rahul and Riyan going about their business in really difficult conditions I’m excited for the next game and focused on doing whatever I can to help the team I think the first two games we played were fantastic The last few games obviously didn’t go very well for us, but still at the start of the competition and c is such a long competition that the IPL that you are going to win and that you are going to lose a few games It’s all about peaking at the right time and we have the confidence of the first two games to score great first innings and also in the second game where we chased a big total So, I’m sure everyone will gain some confidence in that and I hope we can turn the tide in the matches to come.

« I think Rahul Tewatia’s innings against Kings XI have been mind blowing Chasing that total as we need fifty out of three overs, the credit to him for the way he played was just amazing to watch it completely changed the game and put the pressure back on them This is really the thing with T20 Cricket, one out can change the game, that game where he hit five sixes in that one was just amazing and crucial to get us through line »

Stokes’ promotion to first place may have been unique He’s more likely to resume his services in mid-order like he normally does But it’s a conversation for him and management to have before their next game against the Delhi Capitals about his role in the team in the second half of the tournament He also praised Steve Smith, his Royals captain, under whom he had previously played at Rising Pune Supergiant.

« I will discuss with management about my role in the next games I want to come in and make a difference, I hope I can play a role and have a positive impact on the game for the Rajasthan Royals I hope that I will be able to achieve performances that can save us a few games and get these two points on the board

« Steve Smith is without a doubt one of the best if not the best players in the world He improves any team and to have him on our squad is fantastic He’s a brilliant captain who knows a lot about the game , thinks on his feet Obviously had him as captain in my freshman year in Pune too When that first game came up I was wondering what the batting roster was going to be and then Steve came out and opened the stick This is the first time that I think he’s doing it, really typical of Steve actually when something needs an answer because he will always put his hand up and try to deliver it to the team, « he said. -he adds
