Thames Water said its specialists were working to « get things going as quickly as possible » after residents were left with low pressure or no water
He said in a Twitter post on Tuesday evening that the following areas had been affected: E6, E7, E10, E11, E12, E13, E15, E16, E20
In an update just after 930 a.m., the company confirmed that « an explosion on a large pipeline in the Hackney Marsh area » was causing the problems
« We have three teams working to identify exactly where on the pipe the water is escaping, » he continued in the statement on his website
« It’s a complex job, but we are recruiting more staff and working as fast as possible so that we can start a repair as soon as we find the damaged section
« In the meantime, we have brought tankers to the area to improve the situation by pumping water from our local supply network »
In a previous post it said: « We will always endeavor to restore your water within 12 hours »
Any client who continues to experience problems after this period may be entitled to compensation, the firm said
Social media users shared their frustrations during the evening, with journalist Jessica Elgot tweeting: « East London currently has no running water, exactly what I would expect from 2020 to this stage «

A number of people have posted screenshots of an eBay listing offering 1400ml of « fresh tap water » for £ 100
« There is no water in east London and people have already started selling Newham water on ebay LOOOOOL, » wrote a Twitter user, sharing a picture of the entry
However, another user added a screenshot suggesting the ecommerce site deleted the article shortly after it was posted
Thames Water said in its statement that it was « very sorry » for the problem and that it was « doing everything possible to resolve the problem »
« We are already getting a lot of calls about this, so please call us only in an emergency
