South Yorkshire appears to be the latest area under level three coronavirus restrictions, with an announcement expected this morning

Locals will face a complete ban on household mixing except in outdoor public spaces, while pubs and bars will be forced to close unless they offer hearty meals, which is wreaking havoc businesses A financial package to help them is not yet finalized

The government will also advise against traveling in or out of the region, with bookies, casinos and some other businesses also due to close for at least four weeks It follows that Lancashire and Greater Manchester have been placed under curbs locking system «  very high  »

The move will likely apply to the four metropolitan boroughs of Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield It comes after Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham learned his area would be subject to the same ‘very high’ restrictions yesterday – as the funding talks collapsed dramatically

But Minister Robert Jenrick said this morning the government was « on the verge » of a deal with South Yorkshire and details of the plan would be laid out « very soon. » The communities secretary said conversations « Productive » had taken place with Labor Sheffield Mayor Dan Jarvis

M Jarvis tweeted Monday night that he was ready to work with the government, but had yet to offer sufficient financial support

According to figures calculated by the PA news agency on Tuesday, the city registered 2,375 new cases in the previous seven days, up from 2,729 the previous week.This translates to 4,061 cases per 100,000 population – up from 4,666


He said there had been « deep and constructive discussions » that would continue to agree on a plan to « protect lives, jobs and our NHS », amid the ongoing fallout. Greater Manchester’s bitter dispute with the government

Asked if Sheffield and South Yorkshire would enter level 3, M Jenrick told Sky News: “It’s not normal for me to anticipate a full statement the Prime Minister and Dan Jarvis will make later today

« But we had very fruitful conversations with him and with the leaders of South Yorkshire

Our Council leaders and I are ready to work with the government, but they must offer the support we need to protect lives and livelihoods in South #Yorkshire They haven’t done that yet https : // tco / 9ElibbjSuA

« We discussed this yesterday and early this morning and an announcement will be made shortly »

He made similar comments to BBC Breakfast and said an announcement would likely be made « later this morning », after « some pretty detailed conversations » yesterday and this morning

Asked when any new restrictions would come into effect, he added: « I think you will have to wait for this It is better that the people of South Yorkshires wait to see this announcement from him and the government »

A spokesperson for the City of Sheffield area said on Tuesday evening: ‘Mayor Dan Jarvis, the leaders of South Yorkshire’s local authorities and the government have had extensive and constructive discussions on the level of coronavirus alert for the region

« These talks continue as all parties seek to agree on a plan that will protect lives, jobs and our NHS »

Other areas known to have discussed crossing three with the government are the North East, West Yorkshire, Teeside and Nottinghamshire
