World news – GB – The full cast starring alongside Tom Hollander in BBC’s drama Us


Tom Hollander and Saskia Reeves star as Douglas and Connie Peterson in the BBC adaptation of the David Nicholls book Us – but who else has been cast in the new drama?

The highly-anticipated series Us is set to air on BBC One this Sunday [September 20] at 9pm.

It has a star-studded cast including Tom Hollander and Saskia Reeves who play married couple Douglas and Connie Peterson.

The drama is an adaptation of the popular book by David Nicholls and was filmed across London, Amsterdam, Venice, Barcelona and Paris last year.

It follows Douglas Petersen (Tom Hollander) who is blindsided when his wife Connie (Saskia Reeves) tells him that she’s not sure she wants to be married to him anymore.

Devastated, Douglas vows to prove to his wife that he is still the man she fell in love with and to repair his troubled relationship with their son Albie (Tom Taylor) – on a long-planned family grand tour of Europe.

Tom takes centre stage as Douglas Peterson, a middle-aged scientist who is blindsided when his wife Connie tells him she no longer wants to be married to him

Speaking about his character, Tom said: « Douglas Petersen is a man whose wife wants to leave him but he doesn’t want to be left. His son Albie gets on much better with his mother than he does with his father. »

You’ll recognise Tom from many television roles including Baptiste, The Night Manager, Pride and Prejudice and Pirates of the Caribbean.

Saskia plays Connie Peterson who tells Douglas that she no longer wants to be married to him at the beginning of the series.

Discussing her character, Saskia said: « Connie met Douglas 20 years ago. She was a young artist, a wild dreamer and he was a young, enthusiastic scientist. She took refuge in his absolute undying love for her and I think over the years, she’s completely settled for a life that she never ultimately wanted. »

More recently Saskia starred in the popular series Belgravia but you’ll also recognise her from Luther and Collateral.

He said: « My character Albie goes on a huge journey for himself. He’s trying to figure himself out but also dealing with the situation between his mother and father and the troubles in their relationship. »

You’ll recognise Tom from the hugely popular drama Doctor Foster, as well as The Dark Tower and The Last Kingdom.

She said of her character: « I play a Danish tourist who meets Douglas in Venice. She’s a divorced dentist who is travelling alone in a sentimental way to find herself. « 

Sofie is best known for playing Inspector Sarah Lund in the original, Danish version of The Killing.

Thaddea said: « I play Kat and she’s someone who has been travelling for a while. She meets Albie busking on a bridge in her spot and sets him straight. Kat becomes part of the Petersens’ journey. »

She has starred in The Irregulars, The Letter for the King, Curfew, and Dani’s Castle, according to the Radio Times.
