Residents took to Twitter this afternoon to say they have low water pressure or no power at all

Thames Water has said on social media that it is aware of problems in eight of the 21 East London postcodes

They added: ‘Our engineers are on hand to investigate and will do everything possible to get things up and running as quickly as possible’

Of an affected resident, Gourav Sharma, 37, of Leytonstone, told MailOnline that they had run out of water for 430 hours

This meant that he and his wife Meena were unable to make formula for their six month old baby, Ishan, and had to rush to a nearby B&M store to purchase bottled water.

Thames Water said sophisticated customers with postcodes E6, E7, E10, E11, E12, E13, E15, E16 and E20 are affected

The areas include parts of East and West Ham, Forest Gate, Leyton, Stratford, Newham and Plaistow

Residents first reported an issue just before 5 p.m. this afternoon and it’s still unclear what the cause is

M Sharma, who works as a consultant, said: ‘The problems started around 430h There was no water

‘It was a surprise, I’ve never seen it before I got no response from Thames Water’

He said he had to rush to a store to buy water to make milk for his baby, Ihsan

Thames Water said sophisticated customers with postcodes E6, E7, E10, E11, E12, E13, E15, E16 and E20 are affected

‘We had no choice, we had to go to B&M and collect water bottles and there weren’t many

‘There is still no water to flush the toilet, so we’ll probably go to our friends’ house if it’s not fixed in the morning’

The father, from India, added: ‘I have been in UK for 12 years, we are facing these issues in India but we are using rooftop water tanks which help you survive, but here if there is a problem you have no water at all to clean or flush the toilet ‘

He said he spent 30 minutes on the phone with Thames Water, but hung up when he couldn’t get through

Another concerned resident told the company online: ‘We currently have no water at all, so please resolve the & issue quickly and efficiently as you can’

A third added: ‘Can you please inform us of the issue that has caused such large scale disruption and when will it be resolved

‘Water is the basic necessity and we need to know when can we get it back to our taps

‘We are sorry for any disruption and are working hard to get things back to normal as quickly as possible’
