UEFA plans to turn Euro into a one-nation tournament – and that could mean Wembley will lose final
The governing body of European football has already postponed last summer’s European championships to 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic
Now they are seriously considering changing the entire format from playing in 12 nations across all of Europe to organizing in one country
UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin has insisted the euro must move forward as it « will bring positive energy to the people » and European football’s governing body has said that no decision had been made and that she will continue to monitor developments in the hope that it will go to come as planned
But a change of format would be a blow to England as they were to host Gareth Southgate’s men’s group matches at Wembley as well as the final stages, including the final next summer

But that now appears to be in serious jeopardy and, although nothing is decided, UEFA is preparing contingency plans, especially in light of the latest setbacks
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced yet another nationwide lockdown, and while Premier League football may continue, the idea of a Europe-wide tournament in 12 different countries seems unrealistic
It has been suggested that Russia could be a favorite when hosting the 2018 World Cup and have had relatively low cases, but that seems unlikely Russia has also allowed limited fans to return to the stadiums
Azerbaijan has also been mentioned as a host country, but this seems impossible due to an ongoing military conflict with Armenia
They would need to find a country with a low infection rate and few cases that apparently exclude England
Three Lions boss Southgate had previously insisted that if UEFA struggles England could host him – but that luck is quickly fading
It would be a big blow for England as they hoped the home advantage would help Southgate’s men and give them a big chance while rekindling memories of Euro 96
