The M5 near Worcester is closed in both directions after a serious crash involving a HGV.

The vehicle crossed over the central reservation between J6 and J7 earlier this morning (Wednesday, September 23).

Emergency services are at the scene while heavy congestion is building on the both the northbound and southbound carriageways.

West Midlands Alerts said on Twitter: « M5 CLOSED in both directions between J6 & J7 #Worcester due to a serious collision involving HGV which crossed over the central reservation.

Worcestershire’s Operations Patrol Unit added: « M5 motorway closed between junctions 6 and 7. Worcester. BOTH DIRECTIONS following collision.

The northbound carriageway remains closed while final recovery work is completed but is due to open shortly with restrictions.

The M5 has been closed after a lorry crashed through the central reservation barrier near Worcester.

The driver was taken to hospital after the accident which closed the motorway in both directions.

Emergency services, including police officers and paramedics, were called to the scene between J6 and J7 near Worcester earlier this morning (Wednesday, September 23).

Ambulance crews treated the driver of the HGV for injuries not believed to be serious before he was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

Police say the southbound carriageway is now fully open but warned motorists that long delays remain.

The emergency services are working to remove the vehicle and any debris left in the carriageway.

Delays remain in both directions of the busy motorway, but police hope to release queuing traffic soon.

The driver of a tanker was injured in the crash shortly before 10.30am this morning, West Midlands Ambulance Service has just confirmed.

Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) arrived on scene between J6 and J7 near Worcester after the service was alerted by police.

The driver, a man, was treated for injuries not believed to be serious and taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

We were called by police at 10:27am to reports of an RTC involving a tanker on the M5 between junctions seven and six.

The Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) attended the scene, along with an ambulance and paramedic officer.

Crews have treated one man, the driver, for injuries not believed to be serious and he’s been taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital for further treatment.

According to Highways England, the disruption is not expected to clear until the early afternoon.
