World News – GB – ‘You cannot bring back lost lives’: your reaction to whether Lancashire should be placed at level 3

Readers shared their take on the ongoing debate over whether Lancashire should be placed at Level 3 of the coronavirus restrictions

This morning’s difficult talks between Lancashire Council chiefs and the central government have stalled, meaning Lancashire will remain locked in Level 2 for now

Speaking in the House of Commons, Matt Hancock said « discussions are underway » with local leaders on areas of displacement classified as high to very high, but « no decision has been made. taken «

He said: « In other areas currently at the second level where discussions are ongoing, no further decisions have been taken yet but we need to make rapid progress »

Here is a selection of some of your views on the ongoing debate on whether Lancashire should be placed at level 3:

Kim Greaves: « I work in a pub and my mother owns one We are in the Ribble Valley in a small village We have followed all the rules in place and are now paralyzed, we remain open while having drastically reduced customers are killing us

Eddie Jones: « Isn’t it a fact that the government is playing with the lives of the people of Lancashire simply because of the bailout that is being called for?

« The R rate in Lancashire and Manchester is astronomical and keeps rising day by day Does this government want the people of Lancashire to lose their lives? This basically means money is more important than life people In my opinion, this Conservative government was simply wrong from the start «

Susan Munslow: « I live in Wyre so I had a big raise yesterday The problem is Lancashire is a very wide authority, from farms and hills to bustling towns and villages I was expecting 3

Sharon Worden: « Tier 2 is basically what we’ve been doing since August and the numbers are going up, how the hell do people think staying that way is going to reduce the numbers?

« Very disappointed, the economy is bad yes, but it will rebound over time You cannot bring back lost lives »

Lyn Barnes: « Putting lambs to slaughter is the easiest way to respond to the announcement that Blackpool will remain at level two

« Is it just the fear of losing money that is the real problem here and not lives »

Irene Batt: « I think we should have moved to level 3 because unfortunately some people are not listening and will not listen »

Duncan Wood: « I don’t understand why we stay at level 2 With the statistics, we should go to level 3 Surely life is more important »

Ken Dobson: « Again, it will be too little too late We need to control the spread of the virus NOW! »

« Yes, we also need to save the economy, but letting the virus spread will do more damage in the long run Put taxes in place and provide adequate support to people and businesses affected by shutdown rules Do not do not do NOW when the fire is totally out of control «

Jane Watson: « Young people need to be exposed and immunized Why wouldn’t they want it, when they are unlikely to suffer consequences? If they all get Covid in the Uni now , they will be able to mingle safely with more vulnerable family members at Christmas

« The only way forward is for immunity to build up in the population, either through natural exposure to the virus or through a vaccine. The vaccine may never come or only offer partial immunity (50 % by guess) I’m really stumped as to what Lockdown fans think is hit? How long do you think this ruinous hide and seek game can last?

« As one Telegraph reader wrote, » It’s like blowing up the house to kill a hornet. « So too are governments that lacked the power to shut down the world during the plagues previous; we still lived in caves «

Mary Patterson: « I don’t think levels for lockdowns anywhere will work The measurements are too complex, different locks in different areas just won’t work A lot of people work outside of the region where they are live and have different family commitments in different areas I think we should have a nationwide lockdown to slow the spread And the government should pay wages, or most wages so people can keep track of their rents etc. Businesses should also get a helping hand «
