The 31-year-old star free agent outfielder signed a six-year deal for $ 150 million with the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday, according to multiple reports.
The Mets were interested in Springer during this free agency period, but it subsided after the team, Francisco Lindor and Carlos Carrasco landed in a deal with Cleveland.
This deal brought the Mets closer to the $ 210 million luxury tax that Steve Cohen, the team’s new owner, recently told The Post would rather not beat in his first season.
