Lee Holdsworth will compete alongside Chaz Mostert at this year’s Bathurst 1000, and a deal with Walkinshaw Andretti United looks close to being finalized.
Three-time race winner Holdsworth does not have a full-time Supercars seat for the 2021 season more as his two year stint with Tickford Racing has been declared over as the Ford roster will roll back to three cars.
While this left him as the top seed for the Bathurst 1000, his time in the passenger market seems only to be short short-lived.
Autosport knows Holdsworth is ready to join Walkinshaw Andretti United, where he will support Mostert for the famous Mount Panorama event.
Long-time WAU co-driver Warren Luff, who is in Has stood on Bathurst podiums four times in the past six years and is expected to partner with Bryce Fullwood.
The move marks a return to Clayton for Holdsworth, who in 2015 led one from Walkinshaw Racing rten Holden drove under the banner of Team 18.
There will also be one of the strongest pairings on the way to the October classic as Holdsworth was the preliminary pole sitter at Bathurst in 2020.
The deal is yet to be announced even though Holdsworth announced on the latest episode of the Parked Up podcast that he had a drive.
« I had a great time there. But now I’m looking forward to working with one of the best teams and one of the best shots in the field of this race.
« That’s what you have to do in the first year after Supercars. You have to put your skills to the test Bring the right place and give yourself the best opportunity. I’ll do this. «
Holdsworth will dovetail his Bathurst drive with a full TCR Australia program, driving an Alfa Romeo operated by Ashley Seward Motorsport.
After Holdsworth drove for Tickford for two seasons, his departure from the team was linked to the loss of sponsor Supercheap Auto, who had sponsored his teammate Jack Le Brocq.
Holdsworth’s sponsor then switched to Le Brocq’s car, and the 37-year-old declared his exit from supercars a « shock » after driving full-time in the series since 2006.
