The first person in Ireland to receive the Covid-19 vaccine received their second dose today.
Dubliner Annie Lynch, 79, received the first on December 29th Round of the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine at St. James’s Hospital. This made her the first person in the country to receive the Covid-19 shock outside of clinical trials.
The mother of three, who has 10 grandchildren, returned to St. James Hospital for her second round of vaccine Commenting on her status as the first person in the country to be vaccinated against the virus, Ms. Lynch said she was confident to see her family again soon.
« Like everyone else, I got on the vaccine waited and i really feel like there is a little bit of hope now. It’s great to have it here, « she said.
The news came when it was found that nearly 2% of the Irish population has now been vaccinated against Covid-19.
Health Minister Stephen Donnelly said that 94,000 vaccines had been given by Sunday evening, with 71,000 frontline health workers and 23,000 residents and long-term care workers vaccinated.
He confirmed that the first roll-out of the second dose would begin this week, and wrote in a tweet : “This week we’re also seeing the first of our Dose 2 vaccinations – so Annie Lynch and those who were first in the program will get the second vaccine. «

The vaccine rollout will focus on three priority groups over the next few months, including long-term carers, frontline health workers, and those over the age of 70.
