Flooding has wreaked havoc on the Coffs coast as the Orara River burst its banks, flooding roads and cutting off cities in the process.
The town of Nana Glen has been split in two, and the Edward Sharpe Bridge sits under more than ten feet of water. Along with the floods on Bucca and Morrows Road, many residents have been stranded.
A train was also derailed near the city and ambulance services struggled to get onto the site due to the impassable roads.
Nana Glen’s local RFS captain John Lardner and some of his fellow Brigade members are stranded at home and cannot help. They compare it to « on an island ».
Mr Lardner said the flood was heavier than it was late last year as the pouring rain caused roof leaks overnight and cut the power.
« The houses behind me, their backyards are flooded with water and there is a very fast flowing current. »
There was also chaos around Corindi when state emergency services reported they had been tasked with several « life-saving » rescue operations, including one that washed a truck off the road into the flood.
