World News – Jeremy Lin of the US Bay Area approaches a deal to return to the Warriors

. . Lin spent the first year of his career with the Warriors before starring in the New York Knicks.

Jeremy Lin has been around the world and back since his brief stint with the Warriors in the 2010-11 season. Now it seems like he’s going back to the Golden State organization just days before the start of the NBA season.

Lin is working on a deal to add to Golden State’s G League team in Santa Cruz, a source Wes Goldberg told the news organization. The point guard reportedly must first get approval from the Chinese Basketball Federation, where he played for the Beijing Ducks last season.

There is currently no start planned for the G League season. As such, Lin will likely only be training and preparing in case the warriors have to add him to the NBA roster due to injury or the possible spread of the coronavirus.

The end of the warrior list is in the air just days before the season starts, but Lin’s contract won’t affect the end of the warrior bench. Round two Nico Mannion is on a two-way contract and looked good last season. The final position in the Warriors’ squad is likely to be occupied by Mychal Mulder.

The Warriors plan to sign a 10-day contract for Lin and then forego him so that he can be added to the Santa Cruz Warriors list.

Lin, a former Palo Alto High star before playing collegiate at Harvard, trained in the Bay Area during the coronavirus shutdown. He was spotted training with several Warriors players in November, including former teammate Steph Curry. He has also trained with G League Ignite, a new development team based in Walnut Creek for high-level recruits who want to go straight to professional basketball instead of going to college.

Lin set the basketball world on fire in 2012 when he moved from being at the bottom of the bench to being the Knicks top scorer for several weeks, bringing New York into the lead with seven wins.

He translated that success into a multi-year contract with the Rockets where he started every game in the 2013-14 season, but after his first year in Houston, his role on the team was reduced. The Rockets traded him for the Lakers, and began a five-year series that rebounded in the league from Charlotte to Brooklyn to Atlanta and eventually to Toronto.

With the Raptors in 2019, Lin won the NBA final against the Warriors and was allowed to party at the Oracle Arena, but he was a deep player on that championship team. Lin found little interest from NBA teams in the off-season, so he turned to China.

Now he seems to be returning to the Bay Area, where it all began.
