World news – John Travolta lists the Maine home for $ 5 million following the death of Mrs. Kelly Preston

John Travolta designed this Maine home in 1991 with his new bride, Kelly Preston, who passed away last year. And yesterday he listed the property for $ 5 million.

With chintzy floral wallpaper and eclectic plush sofas, the 22-bedroom mansion is more like what you’d expect from your great-aunt than the great John Travolta – but the quirky, cozy home is downright adorable.

The 67-year-old « Grease » star Travolta and Preston, who died of cancer in July at the age of 57, transformed the « creepy », « dark » and « gloomy » historic house in the ultimate vacation spot that will house their 55 family members, the couple told Architectural Digest in 1999.

From marrying and closing the house in September to hosting the family Christmas just months later, it was a « 60- Day marathon “of renovation,” Travolta told AD.

They completely redesigned the 42-room, 11,000-square-foot, 42-room country house, the magic of its crisscrossing windows into his sprawling fairytale playroom.

« Although we both have strong ideas, we will all compromise and work together on every aspect until it’s right, » said Preston, who was responsible for her roles in « Jerry Maguire » and « For Love of the Game » was known. said of her home to AD, comparing her project to her strong marriage.

The design focused on children and family – Preston was pregnant with their first child, Jett, at the time. (He tragically died of a seizure in 2009 at the age of 16.) They transformed the entire third floor into a “magical children’s room” with a princess room, an airplane room, a Peter Pan room, a schoolhouse, a library, a diner and a stage with props.

They refurbished the kitchen, refurbished the English antique furniture, installed a hotel stove and hand-picked furniture.

« It was insane – but so much fun, » said Preston AD. After Christmas Day, they brought in the interior designer Christopher B. Boshears to make the mansion more homely.

The couple met on the set of the 1989 film « The Experts » and had three children.

The couple kept Preston’s two-year battle with cancer private until after her death. Preston’s unique flair throughout the property makes it easy to understand why the « Pulp Fiction » star would sell the house after the death of his beloved wife of nearly three decades.

Travolta was last with his 20-year-old daughter Ella seen dancing in a Miracle-Gro Super Bowl commercial. Travolta also has a 10 year old son, Benjamin. Travolta’s recent appearances include the 2018 mafia drama « Gotti » and the FX television show « American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson. «

Known as Drexel Estate, the home has a square tower with a steep, sloping roof. According to the National Register of Historic Places, it is unique in its juxtaposition of Tudor and clapboard styles.

The house has a Living room with fireplace and a custom-made bar, a dining room with an original rustic fieldstone fireplace, a kitchen with a walk-in refrigerator, an office and a laundry room. The owner’s suite has its own sun terrace, a full bathroom with a claw-foot tub and a separate shower. </ The hilly 50 acre property on one of the highest points on the island is on the bluffs, where a dock provides access to the boat. There are open fields, gardens, woodland and a large back deck overlooking a pool. </ There is also a small farmhouse on the property that the couple lived in while they renovated the house.

The house was built by Peabody and Stea in 1903 rns for the banker and high-speed motorboat engineer George W.C. built from Philadelphia. Drexel according to the archive.

Drexel died in 1944, and although property records are inconsistent, John Colaprete of Virginia and Robert Longi of Hawaii owned the property when it was registered as a Historic Landmark in 1985. You may have sold the property to Travolta when he bought it in September 1991.

Travolta also owns $ 3 million property near Scientology headquarters in Clearwater, Florida, a house in the Close to Jumbolair private airport in Ocala, Florida and a $ 2.7 million mansion in Calabasas, California. He recently sold his Brentwood mansion to Scooter Braun for $ 18 million.
