North Dakota state football is aiming to claim its fourth straight national title in 2021 and has been on track after a 2-0 start. That was before the reigning FCS champions came to southern Illinois.
The SIU Salukis took the lead 17-0 on Saturday and kept the bison on just 106 yards offensive in the first two quarters. Shortly before the end of the second quarter, however, the state of North Dakota received a much-needed spark before halftime.
Only a few seconds left on the music box, the bison snatched the ball from the opposing 37-yard line, with a one-off Chance to score before the end of the second quarter. Quarterback Zeb Noland took the snapshot and waited for his broad receivers to get down the field and into the end zone. When the time ran out, he threw a pass from the 45-yard line into a crowded group of players from both teams.
