A man undergoes surgery after he was bitten by a shark in the NSW Hunter area.
The 58-year-old suffered severe cuts on his left arm at around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday in Yarrawonga Park on Lake Macquarie.
NSW Ambulance says he was conscious when paramedics came to his aid and that he was flown to John Hunter Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
« Spectators did a great job by Put on a makeshift tourniquet before paramedics arrived. This may have been life saving for the patient, « said Grahame Rathbone, New South Wales Ambulance Inspector.
» When you get a call to join a shark attack, you never really know the full extent of the injury until you are on the spot. «
