NBC’s Manifesto opened its third season with a discovery that frankly blew Ben, while the Stones’ recent (and very intense) calling Mikaela led to a strange MIA 828.
As it did in the first few days 5 minutes, which TVLine gave you free of charge, the action picked up three months after the season two finale when Ben roamed some docks in Havana to find the Tesoro di San Antonio (the subject of Cal’s latest drawing ). But just as he finds the modest docked boat, he is hit by an intense calling, Cal (at home) and Michaela (honeymoon in Costa Rica) – in which the three and a stranger lift their heads in extreme pain. A three-way FaceTime confirms the shared experience. Mick then works with Cal and Olive to identify the stranger as Angelina Meyer, a passenger on Flight 828 who has not responded to any contact. Afterward, Cal shares his discomfort with the new calling and tells his mother that he believes they are all « about to die ».
Ben meets the owners of the Tesoro di San Antonio and asks (and easily confirms) that they actually found something « unusual ». After Ben offers a wad of cash, they lead him to a storage room and lift a tarp to reveal the Montego Airlines tail fin they dredged. As a local kid who is secretly using iPhones at the moment, Ben touches the tail fin and is immediately started backwards by an invisible force when contact is made. When Ben wakes up, he and the boat owners are talking about « magic » while the police notice some children outside wondering about the video of the moment. As the cops make their way to the storage shed, we discover that Ben is actually working on communications with a nearby Vance and his colleague, Emmett. The chief cop finds Ben and shows the video. Then he insists that he touch the caudal fin again. Ben reluctantly does this, but nothing happens this time. Then Vance and Emmett drop the cops and zip them before they flee with their tail fin.
Meanwhile, Mikaela and Zeke follow the advice of Angelina Meyer and first talk to their very religious parents, who are only two hours away from the bride and groom’s honeymoon destination live away. They say that after Flight 828 Angelina « no longer carried God’s light » and possibly lost her mind. It’s been months since they saw her, they claim, before proposing to return to New York. (Yet Alonzo, a Vance-appointed technician with whom Saanvi is now working undercover in the back room of a meek clinic, says there is no evidence that Angelina has ever returned to the US.) Mick and Zeke then talk to a local Girl Angelina was friends with. Elena says the last time she saw Angelina months ago she was acting paranoid. Cut to: the young woman from the Stones crouching in a dark, narrow cupboard, reaching for the knife that came with a meal that was pushed towards her …
While Ben, Vance and Emmett (somewhat amusing) Bring the giant tail fin to their cargo plane, on the back of a jalopy and on the hunt with the bulls, the action goes back and forth while Mikaela and Zeke revisit Angelina’s increasingly fishy parents. When Mick asks to use the loo after being walled in by an appeal, Zeke « feels » that she needs his help and pretends to pass out from his own « appeal », which distracts everyone for so long that Mick Angelina, who is being held in a basement cupboard, can sniff around and locate a disturbance.
In the end, Vance takes one for the team and lets the cops grab her and the tail fin while Ben and Emmett run onto the cargo plane. Since Angelina wants to return to the USA with Mick and Ben, Alonzo arranges that the three of them couple up a trip with Ben. Later they all arrive at the Stones house, where Cal Angelina says, « I’ve been waiting for you » (and cleaned his room in anticipation of your arrival / need for a crash).
Meanwhile at the NYPD…. Jared introduces himself to Sarah, a woman had waited a while to talk to Mikaela about her mother’s disappearance. Sarah’s mother worked for the government and sent her encrypted messages (with roses) about when she could be home – and it was three months without a look. Since her mother’s work seemed 828-centered, Sarah wanted to speak to Detective Stone. But in Mick’s absence, Jared agrees to do what he can – and we see that the MIA mother is the major Saanvi accidentally killed in the season two finale!
That night, Ben and Mick puzzled about the impossibility of the found tail fin – and how, as Ben suspects, it and the last call with his previous call about 828 explode in midair. « I think it’s trying to tell us we died on that flight, » he said. And now part of the plane is back, “as if it was resurrected. And I think we were too. « Mikaela asks, » So what does that matter to us? Angel? « » I think we’ll find out in a moment, « replies Ben.
Meanwhile, Zeke senses in the kitchen that Cal is worried about something – and the boy admits that he has the same feeling that he had when the three “shadows” were in the picture. Cut to a flyover shot of the thawed lake into which the meth heads fell in the finale of the second season, but were never found. And right then, one, two, three bodies of pop-pop -Pop! To the surface, one of whom opens his eyes and gasps loudly!
