Now, eight days before trading closes, the Milwaukee Bucks are reportedly looking for some sort of midseason boost.
The vast majority of Milwaukee-based trade speculation has centered on veteran Houston Rockets forward P.J. Tucker concentrated. But with every report that comes out of Tucker’s inevitable departure from the missiles, the bucks are facing stiff competition to potentially land Tucker in a deal at that point.
The same is increasingly true of the Sacramento Kings striker , Nemanja Bjelica, who was linked to the Bucks last month and who is one of the most likely players to be dealt with before March 25th.
Sam Amick ($$) of Athletic recently reported that the Bucks , Boston Celtics, Golden State Warriors, and Indiana Pacers have all had an interest in Bjelica this season.
Whether there will be more teams in the mix for Bjelica remains to be seen, and there are many reasons to believe it will Fall will be as he has an expiring salary of $ 7.1 million this season.
Even at that very fair, affordable price, the Bucks at Bjelica are in a similar position to being at Tucker and probably with any veteran upgrade.
You have D.J. Wilson’s expiring salary of $ 4.5 million which will almost certainly be used as a salary filler, but the bucks will have to hit $ 5.68 million to cleanly acquire Bjelica due to her hard cap restrictions. So another player has to be moved to make a deal possible, but that may not be enough to make the Kings worthwhile.
This is where the bucks’ limited heap of assets must come in handy, there the kings will try to bring something of value to Bjelica. Milwaukee has its 2023, 2024, and 2027 second round players, as well as the 2025 second round pick that they received from the Indiana Pacers and that they are ready to strike a deal to receive a veteran upgrade to prepare for their upcoming playoff run.
Whether this meets the asking price of the Kings remains to be seen, but just like talks about Tucker, including Donte DiVincenzo and his cost-controlled contract, it’s too rich for the bucks to land a three-month rental. If this is a breaking point in conversations, despite the interest Bjelica commands elsewhere, the bucks should be comfortable.
