Hasbro, the company that makes the potato-shaped plastic toy, is giving the Spud a gender-neutral new name: Potato Head. The change will be reflected in the boxes this year.
Toy manufacturers have updated their classic brands to appeal to children today. Barbie has lost its blonde image and is now available in a variety of skin tones and body shapes. Thomas the Locomotive added more girl characters. And American Girl is now selling a boy doll.
