World news – Nine shots, two killed in gunfire in Virginia Beach

At least nine people were shot dead on the crowded Virginia Beach coast late Friday evening – two of them fatal – local police said.

According to Norfolk-based 13NewsNow, the Virginia Beach Police Department had the early Several suspects in custody Saturday.

The shooting took place in two locations one block apart just before 11:30 p.m. The broadcaster tweeted.

Bruce Nedelka of the Virginia Beach Department of Emergency Medical Services informed the station that several people were injured in the shooting.

Images that were collected by the station from the scene show a large police presence along the way the beach community. A portion of nearby Interstate 264 has also been closed, Wavy.com reported.

The circumstances of the shooting are unclear and police could not be reached immediately for comment.
