At least nine people were shot dead on the crowded Virginia Beach coast late Friday evening – two of them fatal – local police said.
According to Norfolk-based 13NewsNow, the Virginia Beach Police Department had the early Several suspects in custody Saturday.
One of the fatalities was a person shot by police on 20th Street and Pacific Avenue – one block from the main shooting location on Atlantic Avenue, the station tweeted.
In addition, a police officer was hit by a car at the scene and had to be taken to the hospital. The officer is said to be alive, said the station.

The shooting took place in two locations one block apart just before 11:30 p.m. The broadcaster tweeted.
Bruce Nedelka of the Virginia Beach Department of Emergency Medical Services informed the station that several people were injured in the shooting.
Images that were collected by the station from the scene show a large police presence along the way the beach community. A portion of nearby Interstate 264 has also been closed, Wavy.com reported.
The circumstances of the shooting are unclear and police could not be reached immediately for comment.
