World news – NRL star says racist remark sparked alleged brawl

Kite playmaker Corey Norman and former panther James Segeyaro have alleged racial abuse sparked a Friday night brawl that is currently under investigation by NRL.

UPDATE: Kite playmaker Corey Norman and former panther James Segeyaro have alleged racial abuse led to a Friday night brawl that is currently under investigation by NRL.

Channel 7 aired footage of a group of men pushing each other down a Cronulla street before throwing punches in a wild street fight, but the footage is unclear what exactly Norman and Segeyaro did.

The couple, who run the fashion label YKTR (You Know The Rules) together, posted a statement on their Instagram account that Segeyaro was subjected to horrific racist ridicule.

« Chicko (Segeyaro) and Corey were involved in an altercation in Cronulla on Friday evening, » the statement said.

“The two boys were walking home after dinner with two women when they were approached by a group of four men. One of them started racially abusing Chicko, calling him the N word. An argument ensued, and Corey came in to defuse the situation.

« He was then blind and a fight broke out. It was almost broken when one of them threatened to pull a knife.

“As an individual and as a brand, we will always fight back against racism. Sometimes it’s so easy to re-share a post or make a video. Sometimes it means defending yourself.

« Although we will not condone violence when there is time to fight, then let it be against racism, protect female society and have your girlfriend’s back.

« Corey informed his club the next morning and we contacted the RLPA about the incident. »

Before: The NRL is investigating a fight in Cronulla on Friday night allegedly involving one of the league’s star players and a former player.

Channel Seven broadcast footage of a group of men pushing each other before throwing punches in a wild street fight.

While the brawl was taking place in Cronulla, the player involved in the fight is not believed to be from the Sharks.

The Dragons also released a statement that they are working with Norman to establish the facts on the matter, while the NRL confirmed they are investigating.

« The NRL Integrity Unit is aware of the video and is investigating the matter, » said an NRL spokesman.

The NRL does not currently know what role Norman played in the alleged incident, but is waiting to speak to the five-eighth of the dragons.

One of the highest paid players in rugby league, Norman signed a three-year deal with the Dragons last year worth $ 850,000 per season.

The NRL Integrity Unit is investigating allegations that a high profile player and a former player were involved in a street brawl in Cronulla on Friday night.
