The male officer assigned to the Gun Violence Suppression Division was struck in the back in the shooting near Lafayette Avenue and White Plains Road in Soundview at around 10:30 p.m.
One Person was in custody and a gun was recovered from under a vehicle near the scene.
The wounded policeman was taken to Jacobi Hospital in a police vehicle. He is expected to survive, sources said.
