World news – Old friends stalk the Cleveland Indians Triston McKenzie in a 7-12 loss to the Cincinnati Reds

Former Indians Mike Freeman and Tyler Naquin have big nights against their former team.

The Indian right-hander Triston McKenzie competed against the Reds at Goodyear Ballpark for the fourth time on Wednesday evening and for the second time in the spring. He allowed two runs with five hits in three innings.

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Mike Freeman and Tyler Naquin should expect some text from Triston McKenzie in the near future.

« Definitely getting some text, » said McKenzie with a smile. « Maybe a few explosives, but all the hugs and handshakes afterwards. »

Freeman and Naquin treated their former teammates roughly on Wednesday night when the Reds beat the Indians 12-7 in a spring training game at Goodyear Ballpark.

McKenzie, fighting for a spot in the rotation, had two outs in the second inning when Freeman took a 2-0 lead. Naquin followed with a double. They were teammates in Cleveland last year, but the Indians didn’t offer Naquin a deal in December and traded Freeman for the Reds last week.

« They both got me pretty good, » McKenzie said. « I’m going to have to send some texts out. It was nice to see them in the box. I feel like I made a mistake on Naquin. I tossed it right into his nitro zone. I did the same with Freeman. But it was very good to see their faces. «

McKenzie allowed two runs with five hits in three innings. He hit four and went one in his fourth appearance and second in early spring. He allowed Nick Castellanos a home run in the first that was but in the third at his best when he knocked out Tucker Barnhart and Scott Heineman and the bases were loaded to keep the Reds from building a 2-0 lead.

« I’m not looking at it at all as a competition, « McKenzie said when asked about trying to win a rotation point. » I feel like I’m going to be placed where I’m being placed. « I just want to be ready for whatever role they give me I have to go out there and perform whether I’m one or the five. «

Spring training can be tricky to use. Results don’t really matter, but they mean a lot to a player like McKenzie.

» As a baseball player, a lot of your success depends on your results, « he said. But at the end of the day they try to find out which result was actually considered good and which was not. « I made a few bad pitches and the clubs benefited from it. I feel like there were a lot of good points, the good points and make sure I include them in the next start. «

McKenzie (0-1, 5.59) will likely have two more appearances before the Indians break camp on March 30th.

» I smoothed the edges in relation to my presence around the hill, « he said. » Coming into that presence like I’m the guy on the hill and I’m not here to work on stuff, I’m out here and try to dominate the rackets. «

The Reds took the lead 9-0 with seven runs in the fourth run. Leftist Anthony Gose, who had not allowed a run or a walk in four reliefs, was charged with six runs with three hits and three walks. He didn’t get an out as his ERA jumped from 0.00 to 13.50.

The first six batters Gose faced hit the base and scored a goal. Gose allowed Freeman a leadoff single and then went straight three times to force a run home.

The Indians made it 9-2 in the fifth when Graham Ashcraft went to Roberto Perez and Andres Gimenez with a pitch met with charged bases. They added four more runs in the seventh to make it 9-6. They were helped by two Cincinnati mistakes and Steven Kwan’s brace.

The Reds made it 10-6 in the seventh when Naquin singled and scored a doubles from Nicky Delmonico. The Indians shortened the lead in Connor Marabell’s doubles in the eighth to 10: 7. Cincinnati added two runs against Adam Plutko in the eighth run, who should have got out of the inning without damage, but catcher Beau Taylor overtook a foul pop in the Close to the Reds dugout canoe with two outs.

Killer Bs: The Indians lost a B game with four innings to Texas 3-2 on Wednesday. The Rangers only had one hit and it was all they needed – a homer with three runs by Khris Davis in the third inning of left Sam Hentges.

Jordan Luplow and Harold Ramirez fought for the Indians in all four innings, the scored only three hits. Daniel Johnson fought in three of the four innings. Shortstop prospect Gabriel Arias won the first run of the Indians in the second. Ramirez had the choice of an RBI field player in fourth.

Luplow, who has not yet played in a Cactus League game due to an injury to his left ankle, started in the right field. He went 1-2. Johnson had the Indians’ only other goal.
