ISLAMABAD: The Pakistani authorities imposed a partial lockdown in several other risk areas in the capital Islamabad and elsewhere in the country on Monday after the positivity rate due to coronavirus infections rose to over 11 percent.

Pakistan faces another surge in coronavirus infections, which official figures say is worse than last year’s outbreak when Pakistan was forced to impose a nationwide lockdown.

On Monday, authorities in the eastern province of Punjab announced Starting April 1st, a two-week partial lockdown in high-risk cities to contain the spread of the virus.

So far, the Pakistani government has avoided a nationwide lockdown to protect the country’s ailing economy from further damage.

On Monday, Pakistan reported 41 more deaths and 4,525 coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours.
