Paul Ritter, the star of Friday Night Dinner, died at the age of 55 after battling a brain tumor. His agent told the press: « It is with great sadness that we can confirm that Paul Ritter passed away last night. » The agent added: « He died peacefully at home with his wife Polly and sons Frank and Noah by his side. He was 54 years old and had a brain tumor. »
The agent continued: « Paul was an exceptional one talented actor who played a tremendous variety of roles on stage and on screen with exceptional skill. He was incredibly intelligent, nice and very funny. We will miss him very much. “Some of Ritter’s popular roles were in the films ‘The Bill’, ‘Vera’ and ‘Chernobyl’ and as Guy Haines in the 007 movie ‘Quantum Of Solace’.
Paul Ritter was someone who took his personal life out of the limelight kept away, so not much is known about his wife or his two sons. However, it was Polly and her two sons Frank and Noah who had stood by Ritter’s side in his last moments. From the time Ritter talked about family while working on Friday Night Dinner, it was clear that he valued the feeling of being part of a family: « What I appreciate is that it feels like family There’s a core of something real there. We’re all crammed into the suburbs for weeks, so ‘the family that plays together stays together’. «
Knight becomes Tamsin Greig, Simon with his onscreen family Bird and Tom Rosenthal appear in a retrospective for the 10th anniversary of ‘Friday Night Dinner’. This is slated to air later in 2021 on Channel 4.
The show’s creator shared his thoughts on Ritter’s death and tweeted, « Devastated by this terribly sad news. Paul was a lovely, wonderful person. Friendly, funny, super caring and the greatest actor I have ever worked with. «
