Just two months after filming, Stan has announced that Drag Race Down Under will hit the screens next month will come.

Ten of Australia’s and New Zealand’s best drag superstars will be on our screens on May 1st. The eight-part series will be hosted by RuPaul himself, along with Bestie Michelle Visage, Australian comedian Rhys Nicholson and a number of celebrity guest judges to be announced.

To the queens, who will be gay and lesbian as early as February 2021 Carnival unveiled in Sydney include Kiwis Anita Wigl’it, Elektra Shock and Kita Mean as well as Australian Art Simone, Coco Jumbo, etc. Etcetera, JoJo Zaho and Karen from Finance, Maxi Shield and Scarlet Adams.

As those Announced for the first time in the series, RuPaul said the Queens Down Under « have some of the greatest charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent in the world. » « Can’t wait for everyone to see Down. » Under-queens have one of the greatest charismas, uniqueness, nerves and talents in the world, « RuPaul said in a statement. « Thank you Stan and TVNZ for providing a platform for these outrageous drag artists to share their heart, soul and humor. »

And to show how much charisma, uniqueness, nervousness and talent are the queens actually have, Stan released a Q&A earlier this week with the Drag Race Down Under contestants as a sneak peek of what’s to come.

But if that’s not enough and you want to learn more about each competing queen, Here’s a handy guide to the legendary queens who will be on our screens next month:

Anita Wigl’it is the owner and resident queen of Caluzzi Cabaret in Auckland and host of TVNZ’s House of Drag and the monthly Drag Wars comedy show. She also has a number of titles under her belt, such as Vancouver’s Next Top Drag Superstar and 2013 Drag Entertainer of the Year.

Art Simone is currently the reigning Queen of Australia and has been named Drag Performer of the Year for the past two years excellent. But Art Simone is no stranger to the big screen with roles in feature films, theater and television shows, and commercials. She also represented Australia at RuPaul’s DragCon last year.

If Art Simone’s Instagram has something going for it, we can expect a flawless look and even better makeup.

Coco Jumbo is a regular on the main stage of the carnival party and has won a number of Drag Industry Variety Awards throughout her career, including Rising Star in 2015, Entertainer of the Year 2017, and Sydney’s Favorite Showgirl for three years.

Elektra Shock, another kiwi queen of the season , was runner-up in the second season of House of Drag and the star of Pleasuredome The Musical. Probably the dancer of the season, Elektra Shock has been dragging for nearly a decade. She is known for her « amazing dance skills, shocking high kicks, and lively locals ».

Etcetera Etcetera is known as the « Glamor Bug » in Sydney’s drag scene. I’m sure we can expect nothing less than stunning looks from this 22 year old non-binary artist. Known for her aesthetics and activism, Etcetera runs the shows at the legendary Imperial in Erskineville.

JoJo Zaho started her drag career in 2015 as a giant fuck for a councilor who said homosexuality was not part of indigenous culture. In response, Jojo went for a walk in Dubbo’s first annual Central West Pride March in a costume she created from both Aboriginal and Gay Pride flags.

JoJo also starred in the Black Divaz documentary, had one Cameo on the TV show Get Krackin and took part in the first drag queen pageant of the indigenous drag queen of Miss First Nation.

Karen from Finance is one of the most famous and well-known drag queens in Australia. The office-themed character not only made headlines at RuPaul’s DragCon from 2017 to 2019, but also headlined shows in the US, including one at the Austin International Festival in Texas.

She was one of the original members of the cult queer cabaret “YUMMY “And was appointed ambassador for DragExpo in Melbourne earlier this year.

In addition to Anita Wigl’it, Kita Mean is also co-owner of the Caluzzi Cabaret and the Pheonix Venue and host of the TVNZ House of Drag. Kita and Anita actually became a drag duo over the years, forming Drag Wars together to provide a platform for local Kiwi artists to perform on.

With 23 years of experience in the drag industry Maxi Shield one of the most experienced artists Down Under. Maxi Shield is best known for her work on Drag Storytime, a program in which drag artists read stories to children in engaging and creative ways to promote the importance of inclusion.

She also won the Entertainer of the Year title in 2015, was named Madonna’s National Hostess for the Australian Rebel Heart Tour and graduated from the Sydney Olympics in 2000.

Scarlet Adams is a jack-of-all-trades, burlesque performer, pole dancer, costume designer and self-proclaimed « party girl ». Scarlet started in the industry at age 18 and quickly went on to win titles like Queen of Court, Entertainer of the Year 2016 and Miss Burlesque Western Australia in 2018.

* Note: While the concept of a down under season of Drag Race is exciting, it should also be noted that some of the competing queens have already been called out because of previous cultural appropriation and black lettering in their previous looks. *

« Drag Race Down Under » will premiere on May 1st on Stan. You can now see all of the other seasons of « Drag Race » on Stan.
